How many slides in a TikTok slideshow? (2026)
TikTok allows up to 35 slides in a slideshow. What guides recommend, why no number is proven, and how to count the slides your post needs.

How many slides should a TikTok slideshow have? The hard limit is easy: 35. The useful answer is harder, because the guides that rank for this question disagree, and the numbers they quote mostly come without a source.
This page sorts out what is known (TikTok's limit), what is opinion (the recommended ranges), and gives a way to count the slides for your own post that doesn't depend on either.
The limit: 35 slides
TikTok's Creator Academy says you can post "up to 35 images in a single post" (photo posts, updated July 3, 2026). The developer reference for photo posts allows the same: "an array containing up to 35 photo content URLs" (Content Posting API). So an app that posts for you has the same ceiling as the app on your phone.
Some videos claim tricks for posting more. They turn the photos into a video, which is a different kind of post. In photo mode, 35 is the limit.
What guides say about TikTok slideshow length

- SocialRails (August 25, 2025) recommends 3 to 7 photos and says that more than 10 "often lead to high drop-off rates according to TikTok's engagement data". It doesn't link to that data, and we couldn't find it.
- Decktopus (2026) says most carousels do better "in the 5 to 15 range, matched to how much the topic actually needs", and calls 35 "the ceiling, not a target".
- Virlo (October 4, 2026) is the most honest: "No public data proves an ideal slide count." It suggests matching the count to the story, from about nine slides for a seven-tip list to fifteen for a longer story.
- TikTok gives no number. Its advice is about shape: every photo post should have "a clear beginning, middle, and end", and should not be a photo dump.
So the ranges are rules of thumb. They overlap around 5 to 8, which is a sensible default, but a post with eleven good steps should not be cut to seven to fit someone's range.
How many slides a TikTok slideshow needs: count the jobs
A better way to count: give every slide one job, and stop when the jobs run out.

Here is a six-slide post for a made-up budgeting app, @yourapp:
- Hook: "3 money mistakes that kept me broke at 25". It stops the scroll.
- Context: "I was not earning too little". Why the rest matters.
- Point 1: no plan for payday.
- Point 2: small subscriptions.
- Point 3: saving last.
- Product: "What helped me". The app, said softly.
Remove the context slide and the post still works with five. Add a fourth mistake and it needs seven. The number follows the content. Reelazy's four built-in formats (listicle, mistakes, uncomfortable truths, story) make six slides by default for this reason: a hook, four points and the product.
Different kinds of post count differently:

| Kind of post | Slides | How to count them |
|---|---|---|
| List of tips | tips + 2 | Hook, one tip per slide, the product |
| Mistakes or truths | points + 2 | Hook, one point and its fix per slide, the product |
| Story or POV | 5 to 7 | Hook, the problem, what you tried, what changed, what helped |
| Step-by-step how-to | steps + 2 | Hook, one step per slide, the result or a tip |
| Before and after | 2 to 4 | Before, after, and what changed if it isn't obvious |
Why more slides isn't free
Every slide asks for one more swipe. A slide that repeats the last one, or holds two ideas squeezed together, gives viewers a reason to leave. Three checks before you add one:
- Does it carry one new idea? If not, merge it or cut it.
- Can it be read in a few seconds? Keep it to 8 to 20 words, and the hook to about 14 (how long slide text should be; the slide text checker counts for you).
- Would the post be worse without it? If the answer is "not really", it goes.
The opposite mistake is cramming. Five tips on two slides look like a wall of text. If the words don't fit at a readable size on a 1080 × 1440 slide (the right slide size), split them.
When to go long, and when to go short
Long (10 or more) suits posts where each slide is a separate thing people want: a recipe in steps, a tutorial, a round-up of ten tools, a week of meals day by day. TikTok's own list of themes that work in photo posts includes recipes, tutorials and round-ups.
Short (2 to 4) suits a single reveal: a before and after, one surprising number with its explanation, a "this or that" question.
Most product posts sit in between. A hook, three to five points and the product. If you are unsure, make six slides and see if any can go.
How to find the right count for your account
There is no public study to lean on, so test it on your own posts, a few at a time:
- Keep the format and the topic area the same, so slide count is the main thing that changes.
- Post a few at your usual length, then a few with two more or two fewer slides.
- Compare saves and comments per view after a few days, not on day one.
Any difference you see is about your viewers and your content, which is what you need anyway.
If you want posts that already follow this structure, Reelazy copies the format of a slideshow that works, slide by slide, and makes a month of posts like it for your product. You approve every post before it goes out. See the slide formats, example posts for budgeting apps and habit tracker apps, or start free: Free includes 2 posts you can schedule to TikTok. Frequently asked questions
How many slides can a TikTok slideshow have?
Up to 35 images in one post. The limit is the same in the TikTok app and through TikTok's Content Posting API.
How many slides should a TikTok slideshow have?
As many as the content needs: one hook, one slide per point, one for the product. For most product posts that is 5 to 8. No public data proves a best number.
Can you post more than 35 photos in a TikTok slideshow?
Not in photo mode. Workarounds turn the photos into a video, which is a different kind of post.
Do more slides get more views?
There is no published data that shows it. Each extra slide is one more swipe a viewer can skip, so add slides only when each one adds something new.
How many slides does Reelazy make?
Six by default for its built-in formats: a hook, four points and the product. A copied format follows the slide-by-slide structure of the post you copied, so it keeps that post's length.
